Attendance

Regular school attendance enables children to maximise the educational opportunities available to them and helps children to become emotionally resilient, confident and competent adults who are able to realise their full potential and make a positive contribution to their community, utilising their God-given talents.

Excellent attendance is vital for your child's learning, progress and wellbeing, fostering a deep sense of belonging to our school family. Our aim is for every pupil to have attendance of 98% or above. The Local Authority monitors school attendance daily, and we are required to follow national guidance regarding attendance.

Please note that, in accordance with UK education law and Department for Education regulations, family holidays during term-time cannot be authorised.

Attendance is also an important part of safeguarding. Our expectation is excellent attendance (100 -98%) for all pupils, in line with Local Authority and Diocese aims. We work proactively and collaboratively with families to support both attendance and safeguarding wherever required.

We take a personal and highly responsive approach to attendance and may contact you to offer support and guidance if your child has time away from school. By working together, we can ensure their learning, wellbeing and any additional needs are fully supported.

Reporting Absences

Please contact the school via phone by 9.30am if your child is too unwell for school. Please provide a detailed reason, including if you cannot get through to the office and are leaving a voicemail. We may call you back to discuss how we could support your child to attend school. 

If you are unsure whether your child is well enough to attend school, please give us a call. We will be happy to advise you. In many cases, we encourage children to attend if they have only a mild cough or sniffle, for example, as they are often able to learn effectively and can feel better once they are with their friends and back in their usual routine.

If, at any point during the school day, we have any concerns about your child's health or wellbeing, we will contact you straight away.

We can administer medication in school (for example, Calpol and some prescription medicines), provided you complete the relevant form at the school office and the medication is supplied in its original, appropriately labelled packaging.
