School Meals
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM), funded by the government. This means your child can enjoy a free, nutritious school meal every day.
For children in Year 3 and above, school meals are paid for through MCAS. Children can have a combination of packed lunches or hot dinners throughout the week.
At our school, meals are provided by our catering partner, Educaterers, and are prepared in line with the latest School Food Standards and current government guidance. Menus are carefully planned to provide balanced, healthy meals, including a variety of fruit, vegetables and freshly prepared options each day.
A copy of the menu can be found at https://educaterers.co.uk/our-menus
Children may choose between a hot meal, vegetarian option or packed lunch from home. We encourage all children to try school meals as they are a great opportunity to promote healthy eating, independence and social skills at lunchtime.
Children will choose their lunch options each morning at registration. Please note, this may change to parents ordering online in advance at some point during the school year as we align systems with the CMAT. We will update you on any changes as soon as possible.
Staff are aware of any dietary restrictions and school and Educaterers follow strict protocols to ensure children receive the meals suitable for their needs. Please ensure we are informed of any allergies or dietary requirements, and updated on any changes, so that we can support your child safely.
School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme
Our school participates in the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme, a government-funded initiative to encourage healthy eating habits.
- What it is: A completely free piece of fresh fruit or vegetable every school day.
- Who gets it: Every child in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
- The options: Regular treats like apples, pears, bananas, carrots, and sweet tomatoes.
- No fuss: Delivered straight to the classroom, ready for snack time.
- Dietary needs: Standard allergens are not a worry, but please let us know about any specific fruit or vegetable intolerances.
You do not need to register or sign up for this scheme. Your child in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will automatically receive their daily snack starting from their very first week with us!
Free School Milk
Free milk is available for all children under the age of five in school, funded by the UK government. At our school, milk is supplied by Cool Milk, the UK’s leading school milk provider.
To arrange your child’s free milk, we will share your child’s name and date of birth with Cool Milk on your behalf, so you do not need to register separately. Once your child turns five, you will have the option to continue receiving milk at a subsidised cost.
Cool Milk processes personal data in accordance with UK data protection law, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Personal information is securely stored and will not be shared with third parties without consent, unless required by law.
Further information about the benefits of school milk can be found at Cool Milk – Why School Milk?
Nut-Free School
We are a nut-free school to help keep all children safe. We ask that no nut products are brought into school, including items containing nuts or traces of nuts. This includes peanut butter, chocolate spreads containing nuts, cereal bars with nuts, and products labelled “may contain nuts” or “may contain traces of nuts”.
Packed lunches and snacks should support healthy eating and may include fruit, vegetables, yoghurt, cheese or healthy savoury items. Sweets, crisps, chocolate bars, fizzy drinks and energy drinks are not permitted.
Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and healthy environment for all children.
Expanded Free School Meals and Pupil Premium
From September 2026, the Government is expanding eligibility for Free School Meals (FSM). All children in households receiving Universal Credit will be entitled to receive free school meals, regardless of household income.
There will now be two categories of support:
- Expanded Free School Meals – available to all families receiving Universal Credit. This entitlement provides free school meals only.
- Targeted Free School Meals / Pupil Premium – available to families who meet the existing lower-income criteria, including a household earned income threshold of £7,400 per year (after tax and excluding benefits). Children eligible under this category will also attract additional Pupil Premium funding for the school.
Pupil Premium funding helps schools provide additional support, resources and opportunities for eligible pupils. Even if your child already receives Universal Infant Free School Meals in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, it is still important to apply if you think you may qualify for Targeted Free School Meals, as this may provide extra funding and support for your child throughout their education.
At St Peter’s, pupils eligible for Pupil Premium receive additional support beyond free school meals. This may include fully funded educational visits and residential trips, swimming lessons, music tuition, drama lessons and after-school clubs. Pupil Premium funding also helps provide targeted teaching assistant support through individual, one-to-one and small group interventions in reading, writing and mathematics. These interventions are designed to help pupils make strong progress and achieve age-related expectations across the curriculum.
Please go to https://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/education-learning/apply-free-school-meals to apply for Targeted Free School Meals and Pupil Premium or speak to Miss Jordan, or Mrs Giacalone in the office. We can support you with the application. If you do apply online, please let us know as soon as possible so we can track the status of the application.
